James Law is a Vice President at SCS Engineers based in Richmond, Virginia. He has over 38 years of experience in civil/geotechnical engineering and solid waste management industry on both national and international projects. Currently, he is an Honorary member who served the past 6 years as a board member of the International Solid Waste Association (ISWA). He is the Chair of the ISWA Working Group on Landfill as well as the Task Force on Closing Dumpsites Global Initiative. He is certified by ISWA as an International Waste Manager with International status.
Mr. Law has been a member of the Solid waste association of North America (SWANA) for over 30 years. He holds SWANA’s Manager of Landfill Operations (MOLO) certification as well as in Liquid Management Bioreactor certification. He is licensed as a Professional Engineer in multiple states in USA. He is a Board-Certified Environmental Engineer (BCEE) with specialty in sustainability by the American Association of Environmental Engineers and Scientists (AAEES). He is an accredited professional in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Building Design and Construction (LEED AP BD&C) by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).
On a personal statement, Mr. Law believes with his international experience and knowledge, he can contribute and share his experience and perspectives with congress participants regarding to the sustainable waste management systems and technologies including various green energy initiatives. He is also very passionate about ISWA Closing Dumpsite Initiative that raises public awareness of the adverse effects of dumpsite operations on pollutions of environment, greenhouse gas emissions, and public health, and how it would impact the vision and future of waste management professionals and practices.
